About
Blue Lakes
The Waun Pound Ponds (Blue Lakes) are three lakes which form an important space between Ebbw Vale and Tredegar.
The lakes have the potential to be a valuable local resource for recreational activities such as walking, bird watching and angling and has also been identified as a candidate site of importance for nature conservation (SINC).
Combined with the adjacent Aneurin Bevan memorial stones, Sirhowy Woodlands and the Sirhowy Valley Walk it could become an important tourist destination.
The Trust proposes forming a new county park, new pathways would be constructed around the top two lakes which would incorporate fishing bays and a new pathway would be constructed to the third lake.
Disabled access and disabled fishing bays would be constructed on the top two lakes. An outside classroom will be built adjacent to the third lake and a viewing platform constructed.
A visitor’s centre will be built which would incorporate a small Café, tourist information and a tackle shop.
EVAD have appointed Steve Cranston Associates to establish the business and bring the project forward in conjunction with architect Geoff Cheason and Gareth Kiddie who will outline drawing plans for site.http://bluelakesproject.blogspot.com/
